Irmo High School is being pressed to allow a gay/lesbian club on the campus. The principal, who is being told by the board of directors that he must do this, has resigned due to his personal beliefs, as well as his view of education. He does not think any sexual orientation clubs should be allowed in high school.
Why should a gay/lesbian club be allowed? For equal rights of all people. Makes sense. Or does it? If a bunch of "straight" kids decide they wants a "straight club" will they be allowed to have one? What if they want a "mixed race straight club" or an "hispanic staright club"? Or a "Mixed Species Club" or even a "polygamy club"? What will the parents who are wanting the gay/lesbian club say to that? What will the district say to that? Afterall, kids could not get such a group without adult help.
Wait a second. This is a sexual orientation club being discussed here. Is not abstenance being promoted in the grade schools? The educators say to the children "don't have sex" and then hand them condoms and birth control and, now, give them clubs where they can meet other people to have sex with. What else would a gay/lesbian club do?
Why are kids so screwed up? There are many reasons and psychologists will give a thousand answers. There is one possibility, maybe they are being given mixed messages by the school.
